101 Ways To Use Baking Soda


If you happen to be like me, then I am sure you will enjoy this article. I try to find various ways I can use common household arsenals. If I can use a particular product for more than one thing, I am definitely interested in it. 

There is one  household product I know that can serve multiple purposes and that is baking soda. Baking soda is the perfect stand in or a lot of products we use. So instead of spending a lot of money on these products you can save and just buy baking soda, and it is quite affordable.

Baking soda aka sodium bicarbonate helps regulate pH—keeping a substance neither too acidic nor too alkaline. When baking soda comes in contact with either an acidic or an alkaline substance, its natural effect is to neutralize that pH. This is why baking soda is used in refrigerators to neutralize acidic odors. But baking soda can do a lot more than just sit in the back of the fridge.

There are so many ways we can use baking soda, But I’ll be dishing a few since even me self still dey learn.

Personal care

1. Toothpaste and mouthwash

Baking soda can be used in exchange for non-fluoride toothpaste. If you want brighter teeth, dip your damp brush into baking soda and use it to brush your teeth. You can also mix it with hydrogen peroxide or better still add it to your toothpaste for an extra boost.

You can mix a tablespoon of baking soda with half a glass of water and use it as a mouthwash. It helps neutralize the odors not just cover them up.

2. Antacid

Baking soda can be used as a safe antacid. You can use it to treat heartburn and indigestion. Mix 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda with 1/2 cup of water.

3. Treat insect bite and itchy skin

Baking soda is perfect for treating insect bites. Just make a paste out of baking soda and water and apply it onto the affected skin area. If your skin is itchy, shake a bit of baking soda and rub it into the damp skin.

4. Deodorant

You can use baking soda in place of your harsh deodorant. If your skin reacts to your deodorants use baking soda instead. Pat baking soda onto your underarms to neutralize body odor. Baby powder can also be used for this.

Beauty and Hair care

1. Face and body exfoliator

Baking soda is an amazing exfoliator. It is also safe in our ecosystem, compared to the ones with micro beads.  You can save the planet, why also making your skin beautiful. Make your own exfoliator with 3 parts baking soda and one part water. You can use the mixture on your face and body.

2. Dandruff shampoo

If your hair is suffering from dandruff, you should stop using your shampoo for now and use baking soda instead. Apply baking soda onto your wet scalp.

3. Healthy hair

Baking soda can also give you healthy, beautiful hair. Add a bit of baking soda to your shampoo and conditioner to achieve this.

4. Clean brushes and combs

Baking soda makes cleaning our brushes and combs easier. It helps remove the natural oil build-up and hair product residue. Soak your brushes and combs in a teaspoon of baking soda in a small basin of warm water and leave to soak for 20 minutes. Rinse and allow to dry.

5. Pedicure

Soak your feet in a mixture of baking soda and water to soothe your feet. Dissolve 3 tablespoons of baking soda in a tub of warm water and soak feet, then gently scrub.


1. All purpose cleaner

You don’t have to spend so much on different products to clean your home, you can make an all-purpose cleaner that you can use to clean all surfaces in your home. Just combine four tablespoons of baking soda and four cups of warm water. Pour the mixture into an old spray bottle and clean away.

2. Smelly shoes solution

If your sneakers are oozing out a bad odor, sprinkle a bit of baking soda in it. Just remember to pour out the baking soda from your shoes before you wear them.

3. Clean microwave

You can use baking soda to clean the inside and outside of your microwave. use baking soda on a clean damp sponge and gently clean the inside and outside of your microwave. It helps neutralize the smell and it doesn’t leave a harsh chemical smell.

4. Clean floors

You can clean grime on your tile floor without live marks and also keep them shiny using baking soda. Pour half a cup of baking soda into 2 gallons of water. Use the mixture to mop or scrub your floors.

5. Deodorize your refrigerator

Baking soda can help neutralize acidic odors in your refrigerator. Place an open box of baking soda in the back of your fridge.
